Believing that music must be recognized as a fundamental building block of all people’s education and development, we declare that music programs should be provided and adequately funded as a part of all public and private school curricula. Far from expendable during times of budget challenges, music education is a virtue in its own right and also supports students’ development in mathematics and language arts. Therefore, we firmly believe that all K-12 students should be given ample opportunity to experience and explore music in an organized educational setting, where music is recognized as an essential element of academic success and human fulfillment.
